Blue Plate
Here are two pieces that I recently completed. I search for glass plates at tag sales. I look for plates with rich colors and textures and build the piece from there. The blue plate is 9\" in diameter and has a \"thumprint\" pattern on the underside which catches the light and displays varying shades of blue.. Foiling the plates can be a little tricky (especially ones with fluted rims). I work the pattern out with the bottom part of the plate facing up so all the pieces are flush on the table surface. I have drawn a 1\" grid on the work surface so as I build the piece I can ensure that everything is centered and square. Securing the finished piece in a wooden frame ensures that the part of the plate that juts out is protected from bumping the window surface. These pieces tend to be quite heavy so I use screw hooks to mount it into my window frame. I have been doing stained glass for four years. I started doing small pieces using a corner in a spare room. Now, my largest bedroom is my studio. (Who needs a lot of room to sleep anyway?)
Green Plate
Here are two pieces that I recently completed. I search for glass plates at tag sales. I look for plates with rich colors and textures and build the piece from there. The green plate is about the same size and has a radiating ridged pattern which is more subtle. Foiling the plates can be a little tricky (especially ones with fluted rims). I work the pattern out with the bottom part of the plate facing up so all the pieces are flush on the table surface.
