The Moon and The Tree
This cement stone was created by mixing quikrete and water in a Folger's coffee can and pouring over the upside down and backwards glass design that was applied to contact paper. Each glass piece was cut using small hand-held tools - no electric tools of any kind are used in my work and it takes a lot of time and patience. After removing from the mold in two days time, the design is revealed right side up and air holes are filled in by a grout I make with the quikrete by removing the gravel. A wet cloth is placed over the piece and it is cured for a day. This cloth is removed and after drying, the stone is covered in a sealant to add sheen to the cement and aid in keeping glass in place. A friend of mine shared the words that were spoken to him once by a Native American man who came to view his crafts at a show in Tennessee. I immediately had an image in my mind about making a new stone using those words. This piece has been well liked and made several times. The measurements are 12\" round and 1.5\" thick.
