The Delicacies of Spring
This is a fused glass plate (4-1/2 inch square) that I created using several different layers of fusible glass. The types of fusible glass I incorporated include: bits of sheet, stringer, rod and patterned dichroic. Initially, the plate was fired to a maximum temperature of 1410 degrees Fahrenheit. The total time of firing was about 4-1/2 hours. This technique is called 'tack fusing'. Once melted, cooled and cleaned it was then set upon a rounded edge flat bottomed bisque mold that had been treated with kiln wash. It was re-fired to a maximum temperature of 1180 degrees Fahrenheit. The second firing took more than 6 hours to complete. This technique is called 'slumping'. The plate is very delicate in design. The mixture of cool colors are obviously delightful. I love the variety of hues one can find. Especially, those being blues.
